Cover Genius appoints ex-nCino finance chief Rudow as CFO

Cover Genius, the embedded insurance unicorn, has appointed former nCino finance chief David Rudow as its new CFO, replacing Gavin Dennis

Embedded insurance pioneer Cover Genius has appointed David Rudow to the position of Chief Financial Officer at a pivotal time in the company’s growth.

Rudow brings to the company almost two decades of experience in senior financial positions within private equity and venture-backed companies. He was previously CFO of cloud-based technology company nCino, where he led the company through an IPO and facilitated the US$1.2bn acquisition of SimpleNexus. He holds a degree in Business Administration and Accounting from the University of Illinois Chicago, and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

His experience will prove invaluable to New York-headquartered insurtech Cover Genius, which itself has raised significant funding in recent months as it continues its meteoric rise. Speaking to InsurTech Digital in May, Co-Founder and CEO Angus McDonald said reaching the coveted unicorn status had been the culmination of “an incredible journey”.

Rudow’s prior experience in high-profile M&As will stand his employers in good stead, should they wish to continue their strategy of growing through acquisitions. He will replace outgoing finance chief Gavin Dennis, who Cover Genius says has demonstrated “dedicated leadership” and made a “significant contribution to the company”.

Cover Genius turns page on ‘next chapter’

Speaking about Rudow’s appointment, Cover Genius CEO and Co-Founder Angus McDonald says: “With David’s proven ability to optimise financial operations, enhance profitability and implement robust financial controls, we are excited to have him join the team as we head toward the next chapter in our continued growth.

“His strategic mindset and deep understanding of the industry will contribute significantly to our overall financial performance and further position us for success as the chosen insurtech for the world’s largest digital brands.”

And Rudow himself says: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Cover Genius team and look forward to helping the company achieve its financial goals. I was immediately drawn to the staggering US$7tn market opportunity within insurtech, and look forward to working hand-in-hand with the executive team to capitalise on strategic growth opportunities that drive financial success and help the company achieve its long-term goals.”

In his day-to-day role, Rudow will oversee all financial operations and strategy – including managing its financial planning, executing financial reporting, and optimising resource allocation that fuels both growth and profitability. A Cover Genius statement claims he will play “a pivotal role” in the future of the business.
